Sailing Holidays in Zakynthou Harbor
Harbor Zakýnthou is artificial, with trapezium-like shape and dimensions of 850×500 m. Its entrance is open to the SSA, has a width of 190 m, and depths along the entrance axis of about 7 m. It is protected by two moles. The curved N mole (Agíou Nikoláou) extends SE for 710 m. Its outer side is protected by rock ballasting and its inner side is quayed for about 650 m. The part nearest its head is 60 m long and made of natural boulders. At its head a light operates. The middle of the quayed part of the mole has been widened to form a jetty 67 m long and 35 m wide.
From the middle of the above jetty another one starts, extending SW for about 90 m. Depths near its head are about 6 m. The area about 20 m to the N, along the jetty, has not been surveyed. Depths near the inner side of the mole range from 0.3–2.6 m, from the root to the widened part, and from 4.5–5.5 m in the rest part. On the outer side, 100 m NW of the light of the head of the N mole, there is a small iron dock shaped like a rectangle with three sides, in which usually cruise ships stern to.
The S mole (Agíou Dionýsou) extends NE for about 380 m and then branches in two legs. The N leg extends N for 150 m. A light exhibited at its end. Its inner side has not been surveyed. The S leg extends SSE for 100 m. On its outer side there is a small quay. The area near the quay has not been surveyed. A trapezium-shaped jetty has been constructed almost in the middle of the inner side of the S mole, with depths of 5.2 m near the head. Usually, ferries stern-to to the inner side of the mole at a depth of about 5 m.
